• GMATS is a wholly-owned government entity of
the U. S. Department of Transportation which is
funded without direct government support.
• Revenues to operate GMATS are generated
through tuition and lodging fees.
• GMATS is designed to support the overall
mission of the Academy in its service to the
maritime and transportation industry.

The Challenge
• 1999 DOT- MTS Study shows a doubling of
freight carrying demand on America's
transportation system by 2020.
• 1998 The LATTS Report shows a tripling of
trade volume with Latin America by 2020.
• The freight volume increase will cause a
guadrupling of volume on land based systems.
